5.0 out of 5 stars Dogman .... Kings x, 20 Oct 2004
This review is from: Dogman (Audio CD)
I never could get enough of this band.I am biased to say that Ty Tabor is what a guitar hero should be and possibly should be far more well known than he is, although I prefer it that way.
Dogman is dark yet at parts are extremely melodic,of course they always astound me with their vocal melodies,Doug's thumping Bass lines and Gerry's simple but more than effective drum lines.Don't think you will be dancing around to this one,it's more for sitting and forgetting everything else around you."Flys" is a killer, just amazing...."Don't care just as good just on a different par.....I recommend this to anyone for enlightenment on how music should sound like, you might learn something from this and any aspiring young musicians should seriously considering learning it,your skills will double over night....Thankyou Kings x for another great one..... take care and good luck...... Leadvein

5.0 out of 5 stars Kings X at its best: a modern classic!, 1 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Dogman (Audio CD)
With "Dogman" from 1994, Kings X deliver truckloads of the cool and rockhard modern heavy metal hotpot, excellent musicianship and baaaaaad attitude one has come to expect from the band. The opening and title track "Dogman" is on of the smartest and most brutal opening tracks in the last decade! It sets a very high expectation level and Kings X delivers in track after track in what is nothing less than a musical milestone of the nineties!

It's criminal that King's X are not multi-platinum millionaires. In all my many years of listening to traditional, contempory and 'nu-metal' rock music I have never heard a band who are so consistant, so powerful and yet so musical. The songwriting is so good and their understanding of harmony and tension in music is masterful. 'Dogman' is a master class in power metal. These guys are never pompous, never ridiculous and they deliver the sort of material that you will NEVER be embarrased to share with your friends in ten years time.

If I could ever die listening to a band...it would be King's X

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their very best-Ninties heavy quality rock classic, 27 Jun 2009

This review is from: Dogman (Audio CD)
This was slightly different for them. it did connect more with the 'Grunge' style bands at the time such as Alice in Chains, Soundgarden but kept their own unique style and pushed it further impressively. It is quite heavy for them but married up with their love of vocal harmonies similar to Beatles tunes. It has very dark heavy funky bass lines and just really fresh riffs. Some of these songs will stick in your head for a long time, and the lyrics are very honestly personal too. great rock/metal classic of stunning top quality heav rock all through out the album, as good as if not better than many great Nineties rock albums such as 'Dirt', 'Badmotorfinger', 'Down on the upside', Silverchair, Nirvana and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly their best album, and a big change in style...., 18 April 2014
This review is from: Dogman (Audio CD)
This was one of the first two albums from this amazing rock band that I heard. The other was their more classic Gretchen... album but this one clearly marked a new chapter.
They broke away at this point with the continued repeated casual but familiar spiritual/Christian symbolism in lyrics and album artwork, their were personal changes and record label issues.
This album came out with much more lose, groove laden, basically 'Grunge' sound. In ways, there was no problem there, as they had actualy influenced some of those bands, particularly Pearl Jam.
This was a more personal, angry, honest album, and the funk just dropped out, the grooves chugged around. There are some really great tunes here-there always are with this band-but fans of the previous distinct four albums got a big shock with this.
Really great album, especially for grunge fans, fans of Nirvana, Hendrix, classic rock.
