5.0 out of 5 stars Classic album gets beautifully produced box set treatment
For many "The Joshua Tree" is one of the finest rock records made. Others see it as overwrought and overly earnest. But this was a band with a conscience and who on the evidence of this record could write damn fine songs. After the bold experimentation of "The Unforgettable Fire", with its sprawling ambience produced by the winning partnership of Daniel Lanois and Brian...

1.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl Ashtray Anyone?
This review is not about the music, that's in the ear of the beholder. It's about the quality of the pressing or should I say the lack of quality. As a fan of the medium of vinyl, I had high hopes for this Remastered "Audiophile" edition ... Which were quickly dashed, the quality of the pressing is terrible! It seems mine is not a rogue copy either.

Disc 1,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Has stood the test of time. As good as U2 have got - so far, 27 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
When I first listened to this album on its release the first three tracks sent shivers down my back. Today almost 14 years later this album still evokes emotions in me that music only occasionally can get near.Amost every track is a classic in its own right. Without doubt this is the best album I have, in over 27 years of album buying. A must for every rock/pop music fans' collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Greatest CD, 9 Dec. 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
On any given day, on any given moment in that day, Bono can make it that much better... this CD can take you anywhere, anytime. Such great songs for when you're on the road, at home taking a bath, and even when you and your special someone are getting cozy by the fireplace. You MUST have this CD, and multiple copies can be better!

5.0 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of U2s amazing career, 16 Nov. 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
U2's The Joshua Tree is by far their most outstanding and memorable album. Including such compositions as Where The Streets Have No Name and With Or Without You. This is compelling listening. Bono and the band exceeded all expectations with lyrics and melodies that are unforgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb value, 12 Sept. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Joshua Tree (Deluxe) (Audio CD)
It isn't too often you get so much content for so little in beautiful package (it is packed in a nice, quite big sturdy box).

I bought this for my mom and she loves it. The original CD remastered and the bnous materials were well worth the upgrade. Simply a must buy for a U2 fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars U2 Rocking, 14 Feb. 2007
By
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
This is probably one of the best (if not the best) U2 album out there. It's one of those classic albums that have stood the test of time, the songs are as fresh now as they were when this album was first released!!

Do I really need to say anything about the songs on this album? They are so well known and are great songs that no matter what I say about them you will already have your own opinion about them. To me the first four songs on this album are pure masterpieces that encapture different emotions. They are amazing and are probably the best on the album.

The rest of the album is great too and if you don't already have this album then get it because it is truly a great album!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album ever?, 13 Oct. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
Is it? Probably. What isn't in doubt is that the opening three tracks of this album are three of the best ever. The opening track, Where the streets have no name, is the finest opening to an album since ever, with its 2 minute intro building to a creshendo of brilliance. I still haven't found what I'm looking for, is brilliantly philosophical, and wonderfully chilled out. Next follows, in my opinion, the best song ever, With or without you. This slow-burning epic features the a superb vocal performance from Bono, but the real highlight is the wonderfully laid back guitar of The Edge. All this is amazingly backed up by the rhythm section of Adam and Larry, with the bass and drums perfectly pitched into the mix. The overall effect is simply incredible. Other highlights include the evocative Running to stand still and One tree hill. Perhaps the albums only weak point, and it seems churlish to mention this, is Bullet the blue sky, which is merely a "good" song. On many other albums this would be the standout song, but here it seems a little flat. Overall, this is an album which has been bettered only twice, by Automatic for the people, by REM, and by Radiohead's, The Bends. However, this album stands alone as the finest moment of the 80s (which is maybe not saying that much! ). If The Unforgettable Fire was the album that broke U2 into the big time, then this was the album which confirmed their legendary status. This is the sound of a band at the peak of their powers, and what a joy it is to behold. Other U2 albums may be brilliant (,ost noteably Acthung Baby), but this is awesome, magnificent, breathtaking and just about every other superfalative you can think of. As you may have noticed, I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic in all meaning of the word!!!!!, 21 Nov. 2002
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
From the minute you put this CD on, you'll know why many people are hailing it the greatest of all time. "Where the Streets Have No Name" is a classic opening song as it lifts you up higher than the sun. Then "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" brings you back down to Earth again with a thump. Then, the masterpiece, "With or Without You" will literally send chivers up and down your spine. The song is that good. As is the rest of the album. Never have so many emotions been jampacked into 1 hour of music. Simply stunning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album ever, 15 May 2006
This review is from: The Joshua Tree (Audio CD)
Best album ever recorded/ Perfect from start to finish. Great themes. Africa (streets),Central America (bullet), loss of friend(one tree hill) love (with or without you) drug abuse (running to stand still) religion (still haven't) injustice (mothers) and then one the best songs they have recorded exit. This is a good a rock music gets. U2 will go down as the greatest band in history and they are not finished yet.
