3.0 out of 5 stars The start of a funk departure
This album does boast some decent funky tracks. The title track seemed to set the scene for future ambient "trip-hop" tracks (if you hadn't heard it before and someone told you it was Nightmares on Wax you may have a case to believe them - which is quite a compliment!). It's a great laid-back summertime tune.

My only gripe with this album is that unlike so many...

My only gripe with this album is that unlike so many of the great funk and soul albums of the 70's it sounds painfully dated. Legends such as Curtis Mayfield's albums sound fresh - like they could have been made yesterday. Ayer's love of the synth, which may have sounded progressive back in the day, now begins to grate.

It's still a decent album with some great moments, but not his best. Time is a cruel mistress.

Ah, waking up in the mid eighties to norman jay on kiss FM when it was still a pirate station running out of green lanes in harringay and hearing roy ayers....this is THE sound of summer - along with lonnie liston smith. perhaps the only man to make the vibes cool (forget lionel hampton).
