5.0 out of 5 stars Squalid, Seedy, Desperate.... Superb.
For those not gullible or stupid enough to buy into the whole media-led Battle of Blur/Oasis nonsense of 1995/96, there were other bands to listen to. This was my first year at university, and it seemed that every corridor in every Hall of Residence resonated to the sound of either (What's The Story) Morning Glory or Different Class. As great and enjoyable as the former...

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish
I absolutely love Pulp and this CD is amazing! I wanted to buy a copy as a gift for a friend but the CD I received from this company was cracked and broken, with dirty, sticky smudge marks on it and the CD inside scratched ... I would not recommend this company to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jarvis Cocker Top Rocker, 5 Feb 2001
This review is from: Different Class (Audio CD)
Jarvis Cocker has beauty within his soul.
Wonderfully touching imagery and descriptions, superb dialogue and exchanges, a unique and genuine insight into working class life in Britain, a wit so ascerbic you could cut your wrists on it, songs which are funny the first and every time you hear them - a near impossible feat.
He is a man of rare genius - and what a mover! What dress sense!
If you buy this you will be touched. Go on - I dare you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great band at its peak, 21 Mar 2007

In every great band there is a period of time where everything comes together. Different Class represent this period for Pulp. Jarvis' brilliant lyrics make every song a story, set to a backdrop of Russell Seniors' inspired sound.

12 years on from its release, this album is every bit as good as it ever was. It is a timeless classic, the gold standard represntative of the musical era known as "britpop".

5.0 out of 5 stars Might be taught in a 100 years, 9 Nov 2000

I love the way this record sounds. The lyrics are great and the music follows it very closely. This record stands out from the trash that was thrown at us in the 90s and I've got this feeling that it will be a record that gets pulled off the shelf and dusted for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different class indeed!!, 19 Jun 2004
This review is from: Different Class (Audio CD)
Absolutely a great British pop/rock album. Jarvis' lyrics fit each song. This is a masterpiece! Common People, I Spy, Something Changed and Bar Italia are extremely well composed! It's an album you'll want to play again and again and again and again and again and again and again...

The best album of the nineties?

Surely not...some of the tracks sail close to novelty record territory ("Sorted For E's and Whizz"..."Underwear") the whole record is comic in tone, the lead singer drones half the songs with a nasal whine of a speaking voice...

But, yes, I think this probably was the best album of the nineties...as heartfelt as early Smiths, as funny as early Madness, real and relevant to its time of release, but not dated.

My own favourite is "Something Changed" but really any of the tracks here would be a stand out on just about any other record I can think of.

4.0 out of 5 stars expressive album about the poor society, 8 Oct 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Different Class (Audio CD)
Ironic lyrics and great storylines within the songs - this albumis the tale of the common man and the way he lives in his poor society. Proud to be who he is and comparing himself to more fortunate others in songs like common people. Almost gives a life story with lyrics describing a childhood crush and a college flirt with a rich foreign girl. Jarvis has that awkward way about him in his songs as if he is not that great at the social integration thing which makes his music a little distort. The words in this album I think are the thing to concentrate on.
