4.0 out of 5 stars Melissa Etheridge explores different musical directions, 3 Nov 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Never Enough (Audio CD)
Now that we have the advantage of hindsight it seems clear that "Never Enough" was basically an album where Melissa Etheridge went into a cocoon. I mean, think about it. Here first two albums enjoyed some success and basically mined what gold there was to be had from the first stage of her career when she played in small clubs. So there is a sense in which "Never Enough" is an exploration of her options. Certainly there is more musical diversity on this album than any of the others we have seen from her to date, from the solo piano on "The Letting Go" to the industrial percussion on "2001." But while the music may be more diverse the focus of the lyrics is the same soul-baring, personal exploration of interpersonal pain that has always inspired Etheridge's best work; see especially "The Boy Feels Strange" and "It's For You." Admittedly, "Never Enough" is the Melissa Etheridge album that I listen to the least, but like all of her others I like it more each time I listen to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Melissa at her best, 23 Nov 2000
This review is from: Never Enough (Audio CD)
In the usual style of Etheridge this CD gives the listener an insight into her own world. The lyrics wirtten by Etheridge, are subtle in places but vey poignant. You will be singing these songs for a long time to come. A definite must for Etheridge fans, and anyone who wants some inspirational music. Song to look out for is "Boys are Strange", a classic!

I have all ME's albums and this is the only one I've reviewed, the reason I think this deserves 5 stars, is the haphazard style works very well and shows great imagination and desire to do well.

All ME's albums are 4 or 5 star, and I think this album deserves my input as ME is an outstanding songwriter and talented performer, and her vision in this album is well worth great praise.

Is lacking in adventure, but still can be enjoyed if don't mind etheridge going pop.Is reaching for further commercial success with Never Enough-but could prove tiresome for an Etheridge purist.Good as an introduction to a more modern sound, precision production values hold out, offering a very feminine sound. With an inlay booklet for the CD which has been compiled with care, makes this etheridge release more than 'Enough'.
