If I had to take one Allman Brothers album on a desert island, this would be it with no competition; bar one, all their songs that stick in my mind are here - the one missing is 'Stormy Monday' from 'Live at the Fillmore East', which is the best ever version of that song.
I love the Allman Brothers, the classic early line up and the new revived lineup with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks; I can listen to it all, but sometimes I just want the catchy songs rather than the jams, and that's what you get here, though there's enough guitar to be going on with.
If you want to own one Allmans album, make it this - but at least try to hear 'Stormy Monday'.

This CD A Decade of Hits 1969-1979 was brought to replace my "Brothers and Sisters" Vinyl album most of the songs are there. "Ramblin Man" is best for me for the lyrics. Everyone knows "Jessica" I guess, the theme tune of Top Gear.
A good starting point for The Allman Brothers Band, It's made me hungry for more!!

As a basic "toe in the water" sampling of the Allman Brothers this is an excellent compilation of their well known songs. Good sound quality all the way through.

having enjoyed the Allman Bros back in the 70's thought I would buy this to reminicse. I was not disappointed with the album having all the favourite tracks with those distinctive 2&3 guitar rifts

Although the Allman Brothers are best as a live band or at least as an album act, this compliation works well. Covering the first ten years of the band's history (and in truth this is their best period of work), people new to the band will be well served by buying this. The track selection is carefully considered and the sound quality is also good. Nicely packaged with well written inner notes too.

The Live at the Filmore East album remains the bands greatest work and the following two studion albums (Eat A Peach/Brothers and Sisters)are also reccommended.

If your searching for some classic 70's rock and maybe enjoy bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, then please try the Allman Brothers. Like Lynyrd Skynyrd, they have a history of tragedy taking away group members and should Greg Allman have lived longer, no doubt the bands reputation would be even greater.

Recommnded.
