4.0 out of 5 stars An under-rated album from Elton's classic period
Over the years 'Caribou' (named for the studio where it was recorded, in Colorado) has often been denigrated by critics as a poor follow-up to the immensely successful double album 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', which represented Elton at his peak of popularity. Furthermore, it happened to be followed by the very successful 'Captain Fantastic' album, and was therefore...

1.0 out of 5 stars What was he thinking?
I love Elton I really do but from my point of view of a younger Elton fan this is just abysmal. It seriously lacks the warmth, focus, lyrical sophistication and passion of say Honky Chateau. I respect artists for being adventurous and experimenting but Solar Prestige a Gammon has to be one of the worst things he has ever recorded. It's so cheesy. Pinky is a okay song but...

Pinky is a okay song but one listen is enough. Even the most known song, Don't Let The Sun is a little whiny for my liking,It's by long mile the worst album of his classic period. I would go as far as to say that this is for completionist only! Avoid at all costs.

3.0 out of 5 stars The bonus tracks are better than the album!, 23 Aug 2010
This review is from: Caribou (Audio CD)
Caribou is a good but not great album. Extracting `The Bitch Is Back' and `Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' leaves only middling Elton tracks. The four bonus tracks however are all great. Elton's version of 'Pinball Wizard' is as good as (though different to) The Who's and 'Sick City' is better than any of the album tracks on Caribou. Worth purchasing for the songs I've mentioned alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a great album, but worth the buying, 28 Mar 2010
This review is from: Caribou (Audio CD)
For sure, not one of the best Elton's lps, but contains some gems - notably THE BITCH IS BACK, PINKY and the immortal DON'T LET THE SUN GOES DOWN. The rest is simply uneven fillers...
