4.0 out of 5 stars Starship Troopers CD
Easily one of the most bombastic scores Basil poledouris has ever done and thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
Firing off with the Fed Net March the CD gets striaght into the action with track two and three featuring the action of the KLendathu Drop and the Roger Young's escape from the Asteroid. Both encompassing some very intense fast paced orchestral...

3.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent but unbelievably short
This is an amazing soundtrack, easily one of the very best music available for the genre of sci-fi movies, equalling such gems as Williams' "Star Wars" compositions. The musical content fits absolutely with the images on the screen, and will succeed in making you feel you're there. The technical quality of the recording is also astounding, easily one of the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent but unbelievably short, 6 Sep 2000

This is an amazing soundtrack, easily one of the very best music available for the genre of sci-fi movies, equalling such gems as Williams' "Star Wars" compositions. The musical content fits absolutely with the images on the screen, and will succeed in making you feel you're there. The technical quality of the recording is also astounding, easily one of the best you can find among all CDs on the market. Extremely crips highs and deep bass, with an excellent stereo 'ambiance'.
On the down side, some major flaws: first, this CD is way too short, at just some 30 min ! That leaves more than 40 min. unused on the CD. Besides, extremely good tracks from the film aren't included at all (such as Carmen's first flight), and the last track on the CD, "Into It" doesn't fit at all with the rest, it's completely out of place, different 'experimental' style, horrible vocals, nearly cacophonic, a real nuisance, always to be skipped while playing the CD.
In conclusion: Extremely good soundtrack, both musically and technically, but I can't understand why "Into it" was included, I can't understand why other magnificent tracks weren't, and filling just 30 min of a 74 min CD from a 2-hour long soundtrack is on the verge of being a fraud. Unforgivable.

Both encompassing some very intense fast paced orchestral tracks, frentic string writing and bombastic brass.
Further tracks get a little weird and wonderful like Tango Urilla as the troops home in on the beaten outpost, and frenetic once again like Bugs! when the enemy attacks enmass.
With another superb roller coaster track, the destruction of the Roger Young, we then move to the latter part of the film with the eerie Brainbug and the rousing end to the film in They Will Win. Zoe Poledouris's Into It bookends the CD and whilst its certianly different it isn't quite as good as the full blown orchestral stuff that her father did.
Music missing includes the transport to the Roger Young and a about 20 odd minutes here and there. Reason, quite simply the reuse fee on this one was huge, Varese had their work cut releasing this much. However what you get is pretty damn good and one of Poledouris's finest efforts. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute class, 20 Feb 2001
This review is from: Starship Troopers (Audio CD)
This has got to rank itself next to the great soundtracks of all time next to Gladiator and Resevoir Dogs for its long term appeal and feeling put into the music. There are many parts that suck you in and make you feel like one of the troops going into battle against the bugs. A must for any SCi-Fi fan, or evenanyone who loves this type of soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack to a great movie!, 20 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Starship Troopers (Audio CD)
I love the Starship Troopers soundtrack and the movie, which I saw twice at the cinema when it came out. As with all of Basil Poledouris's work, it is very powerful and awe inspiring. Some of the music from the movie does not appear on the soundtrack, such as the music from the transporter scene when Ibanez and some of the other new recruits are travelling to the Roger Young, not to mention scenes in the cave when Rico's squad are looking for Ibanez. The disc is quite short, but still fantastic, I also love Zoe Poledouris's "Into It" which is at the end of the soundtrack and Zoe Poledouris herself appears in the movie performing the song. Unfortunately Basil Poledouris passed away in 2006, but his music lives on in great soundtracks such as this. Rest in peace Basil Poledouris.
