5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional singer, 16 Jun 2006

This review is from: Emma Kirkby - A Portrait (Audio CD)
Emma Kirkby has become renowned for her boyish bell soprano voice throughout the early "authentic" music revival which started in the 1970s. This compilation is a worthy sample of her singing which has a beautiful clarity and diction. Some may find her approach a bit cool but this suits these mainly liturgical pieces for performance in a church. The two Mozart items are particularly welcome, including her unforgettable version of the famous "Laudate Dominum", and the motet "Exsultate, jubilate" given in its entirety. A short biographical note and full texts are provided. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for Emma Fans, 3 July 2010

This review is from: Emma Kirkby - A Portrait (Audio CD)
I have been a great fan of Emma Kirkby for many years now but this is one CD that I had missed. At the time of issue in 1994 she was still one of the few sopranos specialising in early music. A good collection of songs ranging from Handel to Dowland, and an especial favourite: Arne's arrangement of 'Where the bee sucks'. Her voice has an unmistakable purity and clarity that is peculiar to her. One to get.
