4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD SECOND LP
This album followed up Nine on a Ten Scale in 1976/77. I bought it in 1978 after I have been blown away by the live elpee All Night Long. I had to buy this on import. Initially, I was disappointed by it as it doesn't have any where near the fire of the live record. which fairly belts along. This album followed up Nine on a Ten Scale in 1976/77. I bought it in 1978 after I have been blown away by the live elpee All Night Long. I had to buy this on import. Initially, I was disappointed by it as it doesn't have any where near the fire of the live record. which fairly belts along. However, it is blessed with some great songs, both in terms of melody and lyrics. 30 or so years later this remains my favourite Hagar record by far. Actually, Red and Rock and Roll Weekend are probably amongst the weakest songs. But Just listen to the good time vibe of Cruising and Boozing and and the two covers of Donovan's Catch the Wind and Patti Smith's Free Money. None of it is heavy - he was in well into his Boz Scaggs period remember. But there are guitars. The second side is better - Fillmore Shuffle, Hungry and The Pits have great lyrics and just have a great LA feel. Plenty of horns as well to add texture. It is finished off with Little Star and the ethereal instrumental Eclipse which really does make you feel as though you're staring into space. A nice recording too in the 70s vein of clarity with no bombast.
