5.0 out of 5 stars Untainted Jones!....
These two albums are testament to the unique vocal talent and songwriting ability of Gloria Jones. Formerly a Motown artist, the original singer of "Tainted Love", writer of hits for Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, and Gonzalez (disco classic "Haven't Stooped Dancin' Yet) and that's not even touching on her production C.V..... 5.0 out of 5 stars Untainted Jones!...., 20 April 2001

What is presented here is Vixen, her collaboration with Marc Bolan (of T.Rex fame and Glam Rock God) from 1975. The tracks are all infectious pieces of soul/pop/rock and just a hint of disco. Check her covers (yes there are 2) of Get It on and you will witness the creativity and magic of the Bolan/Jones team. Produced by Bolan his guitar can be heard on most tracks somewhere in the mix. There's even a re-recording of "Tainted Love" with a little extra pep! The overall sound is warm and inviting. Ballads include "Go Now" and "High". Although recorded in the mid 70's the production is crisp and clever (Bolan's teacher was Tony Visconti!). The speakers are full and flutterng with energy. This really is a lost treasure. "Windstorm" is Jones back to her full blown soul roots. "Bring On The Love" is the opening track with a breath-taking arrangement, disco beat, horns, acoustic guitar, strings, and it fills the air like a summer breeze. Why this was not a hit only God can tell!! Check out the listing of guests artists on this and you'll know Gloria Jones has lots of friends in the soul/jazz world.....it's a who's who of the big soul session men and women of the 70's! Included here is "If The Roses Don't Come", a tribute to her lover Marc Bolan which could pull tears from a rock. "Blue Light Microphone" is a funky dico soul stew with Wah Wah Jackson stealing the spotlight from time to time. "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" is a seductive disco thumper, and I must say it again, a lost classic. The overall feel off this CD is lush and luxurious, from a woman who has had a big influence on the shape and sound of soul music in the 70's, but still remains in the shadows. If your a fan of soul/pop/funk/rock/ballads and plain good old joyous orgasmic catterwauling then this is really something for you. Unique to the core!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tragically under-rated, 14 Jan. 2008
This review is from: Vixen/Windstorm (Audio CD)
Gloria Jones is one of the best kept musical secrets. I discovered her first through Zinc Alloy era T-Rex then worked my way back to her Motown debut, "Share My Love." She has a powerfull, emotive voice and unlike many female stars of the soul era, actually wrote and produced her own songs, both talents which shine (in different ways) on these two CDs. Sadly she doesn't seem to record anymore . . .
