5.0 out of 5 stars Bill Evans at the peak of his powers, 3 April 2001

This review is from: Since We Met (Audio CD)
Recorded live at the Village Vanguard with Eddie Gomez and Paul Motian. The sound is excellent, with both ambience and clarity. All tracks are superb but the last three are amongst Evans' absolute best: on 'Turn out the Stars', long, heavily chromatic lines swing with a passion that approaches euphoria; on 'But Beautiful' his capacity to spin out perfectly finished melodicism is displayed as well as ever. Throughout, the interplay between Evans, Gomez and Motian is intense and focussed, and unlike other recordings of Evans at the VV, we are not unduly distracted by cash registers, clinking cocktail glasses and the like.

This is another appealing session from the 20 year anniversary of Bill's regular performances at the Village Vanguard. These recordings complement the Cd issued as RE PERSON I KNEW.
