I've spent 3 days listening to this carefully - at home, work, in the car and whilst walking in London - and can say without hesitation that it ranks alongside my top 10 jazz albums. It's a *superb* album; inventive, crazy and alive with feeling and passion. Breathtaking - Jump Monk and Work Song being the 2 outstanding.
Just buy it

TOP 500 REVIEWERon 26 February 2013
The great bassist Charles Mingus(1922-1979) recorded this excellent live album at the Cafe Bohemia in New York City on December 23, 1955 about a month before his studio masterpiece 'Pithecanthropus Erectus'(ATLANTIC).
With Mingus(bass) were the underrated tenor saxophonist George Barrow, trombonist Eddie Bert, pianist Mal Waldron and drummer Willie Jones. Max Roach duets with Mingus on 'Percussion Discussion'.
Highlights include Mingus's dedication to Thelonious Monk 'Jump Monk', 'Work Song' and 'Septemberly', a combination of 'Tenderly' & 'September In The Rain'.
Bonus tracks include alternative takes of 'Jump Monk' & 'All The Things You Are C-Sharp.
'At The Bohemia' is an unjustly neglected album and an ideal introduction to Mingus's music.
