5.0 out of 5 stars up beat to the end, 14 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Last Session (Audio CD)
Blind Willie Mctell is as upbeat as ever even though he was seriously ill. He provided an insight into how hard, cruel and dangerous life had been for blacks in America at that time. His anecdotes and explanations of the songs provide real insight. He ended up with his last recorded song ever being a sentimental song from vaudeville 1916 Old Pal of Mine which would bring tears flowing from the hardest.
This album is a great compliment to his LIbrary of Congress 1940 session and helps us understand the life and times of Blind Willie McTell.

mc tells voice is not as smooth or his playing as dexterous as on early output, but he makes up for in swagger, dynamics and atmosphere. wonderfully laid back, chatty- worth buying for the extraordinary ' dying crapshooters blues' alone'. read michael gray's wonderful biography for more info! there are a few tracks recorded on the day that remain unreleased. someday, maybe...
