This excellent collection contains best solo performances and collaborations by one mighty guitar player. Mostly known for his instantly evident sound in his collaboration with piano bluesman Leroy Carr, he also produced some breath taking solo works. Included here is Kokomo Blues, which reveals the undisputed roots to Kokomo Arnold's Old Original Kokomo Blues and Robert Johnson's Sweet Home Chicago. Like no other bluesman, I know Blackwell's music and rhythm, stands in balance between the "country" and "city" blues. As documented in the detailed CD notes, he anticipated instrumental breaks, but never stretched them beyond need. His playing and singing are sophisticated and to keep to the argument, composed. The sound quality is excellent and inner notes about Scrapper's guitar techniques very well written. A very important and enduring artist.
