Quite possibly the ultimate Americana LP.Timeless songs aching with emotion & telling great stories of love & the great lost America of yesteryear.Titles like "Desperados Waiting For A Train" & "Texas 1947" whet the appetite & don't disappoint.Guy Clark has made & continues to make excellent records after this his debut album but he has never quite topped this near perfect 10 song collection. If you love American country/folk this is an absolute must for your collection.Every home should have one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding debut album from 1975, 25 Jun 2013

This review is from: Old No.1 (Audio CD)
I can't remember where I first heard Guy Clark, probably on a various artist compilation - but I was immediately impressed I went out and looked to see what was on CD format.

My version of Old No.1 (originally on RCA) is on the (British) Edsel label, a part of Demon Records, re-issued in the UK in 1988 - it may have been the first time the album appeared on CD.

All 10 tracks are good, with a few gems as highlights, like the outstanding "LA Freeway" and "Desperadoes Waiting For A Train" which The Highwaymen (Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash) later recorded.

Songs written by Guy have been recorded by a "Who's Who" of Country greats like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney, to mention a few.

He is one of the great singer songwriters.
