5.0 out of 5 stars takes a while
It takes a while to realise the guy who wrote the songs is a genius. Some of the songs I do not like, others have grown on me to such an extend I am in awe. Buy it for just one track alone...Donovan's Reef

This review is from: Here We Are Again (Audio CD)
This album marks the disintegration of the original Fish lineup, with the core of McDonald, Melton and Cohen augmented by San Francisco alumni such as David Getz, Peter Albin and Jack Casady. As a consequence, it is stylistically a far cry from the likes of Electric Music for the Mind and the Body. But unlike ‘Togther,’ Country Joe is very much at the helm and accordingly, the actual song writing is very strong, albeit pointing in the direction of his future solo career. Indeed, ‘old timey’ songs such as ‘Maria’ and ‘Here We Go Again’ fare much better than the more psychedelic material. In this arena, only ‘Crystal Blues’ comes close to succeeding and this is essentially a retread of ‘Death Sound’ from the aforementioned ‘Electric Music…’ Meanwhile, Barry Melton’s songwriting contributions are respectable and manage not to jar against the general ambience of the album. For unlike its predecessor 'Together', there is a coherent sound to ‘Here We Are Again,’ although (and this is emphasised by the use of horn and string arrangements) it is not the sound most associated with Country Joe and the Fish.
