The tombs I visited in the Valley of the Kings weren't even mentioned in this guide. Complete waste of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIDDEN SPECTACLE IN THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS, 1 Jan 2012
This review is from: The Valley of the Kings and the Theban Tombs (Egypt Pocket Guides) (Paperback)
No visitor to Egypt should turn down an opportunity to visit the Valley of the Kings and the Theban Tombs. An arid, baking mountainous landscape is pockmarked with insignificant holes in the tumbled scree; here the Theban Kings, bent on living for ever, determined that their giant sarcophagi should be hidden deep within the rock, approached by passageways hewn in the mountain and decorated with the history and achievements of their reign. From the moment a Pharaoh came to power his life began to be catalogued in the vivid painted hieroglyphics which lined the passageways to the tombs themselves. Today, they shine as brightly as the day they were finished, protected by a beeswax veneer that has lasted for up to 5000 years. Every detail of the Pharaoh's journey to the afterlife is encapsulated on the walls of the passages, which are a treasure house of creativity and imagination. The Egypt Pocket Guides are all good - but this is an essential companion to the Valley of the Kings, especially as the visitor is never sure which tomb will be open on the day of their visit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valley of the Kings, (egypt pocket guide), 3 Dec 2010
This review is from: The Valley of the Kings and the Theban Tombs (Egypt Pocket Guides) (Paperback)
I found these little "Egypt pocket guides" an excellent compannion at the the sites, however, could not find an english version of this one in Egypt. Having studied it since, it is well up to standard. Provides lots of essential facts & tips, maps & diagrams, good balance of text & pictures. It does indeed fit in your pocket.

This review is from: The Valley of the Kings and the Theban Tombs (Egypt Pocket Guides) (Paperback)
This is a compact but very informative guide to the Valley of the Kings. It is well presented, giving the main facts about each of the tombs normally open in a helpful and convenient way, with some details about other attractions, and has excellent illustrations. As photography is not permitted in the tombs, and they can be crowded at peak times, a guide of this kind which gives the main facts in a clear and attractive way is quite indispensable.

I saw so many tombs and temples during a recent visit to Egypt.Too many in fact to remember them in detail and what I saw where.
This concise pocket guide allowed me to do just that.I wish I had bought it before my visit.
