If you enjoy reading other people's diaries - and who doesn't? - then you will be fascinated by the performance of Brian Cox. He gets right into the persona of Aubrey, albeit with a slight Scots accent - and you can tell that he relishes the part.
This is primary-source history written by a most articulate man and read by an enthusiastic one!

I have always held Brian Cox in the highest esteem as an actor. Whatever the role, he fits easily into character and as John Aubrey one is not dissapointed and certainly this two disc set provides agreeable entertainment. However, one cannot but compare this to the earlier version as performed by Roy Dotrice many years ago first on stage and then on BBC radio. Until someone decides to release this again, Mr Cox is an acceptable alternative.
