This is a brilliant book that operates on an excellent premise. Photographs from throughout Soth's career are shown and a conversation takes place around each picture.

In feel this is a bit like the Phaidon 55 books, a very broad cross section of the artists ouevre, but, unlike the 55 series, we have very indepth dissection in which the artist reveals background, motivation and puts each photograph in context within its series.

Soth is an excellent conversationalist and the style of the prose is very friendly without descending into schmaltz. There is good info on each picture without needless technical info, its purely about artistic sentiment. Some of it is as basic as 'I took the photo because the scene before me looked very pretty.' Fair enough.

I hope this series develops as the format, design and premise is excellent.

A brilliant book that I will read over and again.

Excellent.
