This review is from: Napoleon and the Empire of Fashion: 1795-1815 (Hardcover)
If you like Empire and Regency period clothing and fashion, this is an essential purchase.

The original exhibition, 'Napoleone e l'Impero della Moda' was in Milan in 2010 but may be touring Europe at some point. If you can't get to it, this is the next best thing.

Covering the history of Napoleonic era fashion the book contains many highly detailed photos of actual period clothing and also fashion plates of the age.

I had to wait several months for this to arrive and it is definitely worth the wait. I can see myself having to buy another copy of this as the first is getting some hard use!

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFUL AND INFORMATIVE BOOK, 29 Mar. 2011
This review is from: Napoleon and the Empire of Fashion: 1795-1815 (Hardcover)
Superb dialogue, beautifully displayed original costumes. Cristina and Martin have produced a masterpiece for the eye. A great deal of work has gone into this invaluable book. A must for the followers of the Directoire/Empire period of France. Utterly fascinating.

I am a long term re-enactor and highly recomend this book for womens fashion during this period. It has some wonderfull pictures of dresses and close up veiws of some items..there are not very many books on the market for regency fashions..this is one I would advise to get if you are a lady new to re-enactment and want some inspiration and ideas of the period..Although french fashions, the British style was very much inspired by the french fashions in that day...some dresses in the book appear original, some may be copied from plates of the period but they are the best I have seen...in any book, and are a good refrence to copy..overall a very good text and visual refrence for this period..

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book, wonderful photographs, 13 May 2011
This review is from: Napoleon and the Empire of Fashion: 1795-1815 (Hardcover)
I collect fashion prints from the Napoleon-Regency era, and it was a thrill to see the dresses sketched in my fashion plates actually made real. The photography is marvelous, and the dresses of white muslin over white muslin covered with lots of delicate white embroidery is just wonderful to look at. I hope some time to see these dresses in person- if they ever come to the US, San Francisco, Sacramento or better yet Reno NV where I live, I will absolutely visit the display many times.
