In this superb 4 cd, 88 track box set the compilers have created an indispensable part of any music lover's collection. The production is excellent, with good liner notes and great sound quality. The main plaudits have to go to the sadly missed Marvin Gaye though. 88 tracks of uniformly superb quality? It's a rare artist who can lay claim to that sort of a track record!

This set charts his career in chronological order, from the early soul of "Hitch hike" and "stubborn kind of fellow", "heard it through the grapevine", possibly the greatest soul song ever, the duets with Kim Weston ("It takes two") and Tammi Terrel ("Aint no mountain high enough"), through the social conscience (What's going on?") and the pure funk of "Sexual healing". In between these major milestones the path is full of unfairly lesser known gems, all of which are of a superb quality and just as worthy as his better known hits.

The man had an amazing voice and was more than worthy of the name "The Master". Indeed he seems to improve all the way through this set (even though he was pretty great to start with!) and one can't help but wonder what new heights he would have scaled if he had not been so cruelly taken from us.

This box set is a must for any serious soul fan. It is perhaps a little much for the casual Marvin Gaye fan, but for those who want to hear a bit more than just the usual big hits such as "Grapevine" and "sexual healing" it is ideal.

This had some old tracks which I had wanted for ages. Marvin Gaye at his best in my mind. It's nice to be able to get some old tracks that don't often get aired.
