This review is from: Sou Fujimoto: Futurospective Architecture (Paperback)
After reading the book, I think it's worth the price you pay because it gives you first hand insight on Fujimoto's creative process. Short sentences are tightly linked to illustrations in order to create some short of a "Fujimoto Bible" that enables the reader to access his inner world. It's just pictures and comments related to each picture, but the great thing is that such comments can be the starting point to look at other architects, because they are open enough to carry you to other ideas. They are like triggering facts that a critical reader must analyse by himself and not just take them as granted (also because they are shared by other architects). It brings projects never seen before, models made during the process ranging from conceptual "unbuildable" models to final models. The essay by Gleiter is by far the most interesting as it applies to Fujimoto's thinking through a meaninful discussion of his own works, while the others run a little far from the discipline itself. Interviews with owners of Fujimoto's houses do not offer too much insight, although they are fine. As I said, worth the value, not only because of its contents, but also because of the simple, nice and straightforward layout!!
