5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, sexy guys. Fabulous erotic drawings., 23 Dec 2009
This review is from: Allure: From High Fashion to Pulp Fiction - Glamour and Porn (Hardcover)
Robert W Richards worked for years as a fashion artist for newspapers. Then, as he puts it, he decided he wanted no longer to draw the clothes but the people inside the clothes. Specifically, the men inside the clothes and, even more specifically, men without the clothes.
Peter Berlin was one of the men Richards drew and he was also depicted by Tom of Finland and photographed by Mabblethorpe, so his pedigree is not bad. He says, in an introduction to the book, that Richards 'knows what makes a man look desirable and sexed-up' and how to express lust and longing. Amen to that. Richards can be graphically explicit or evocatively suggestive. One of the most erotic drawings is of the bare legs of a guy with his white underpants lying at his ankles. Richards certainly knows the arousing impact of men in, and partly out of, jockstraps. All in all, this is one of the best small volumes of gay erotic art I have come across.
