'Architecture Now: Green Architecture' is an attempt by Philip Jodidio to venture away from the usual and well known 'Architecture Now' series. Reading the book, the layout and the excellent use of pictures is expected from the book, but the title is quite deceptive.

For a start, however, arguable this might be, the majority of the architecture featured in the book are not 'green' in all senses of the word; rather the architecture featured are all situated in green spaces, use one or two materials that are renewable - then poof, it appears in the book.

I bought the book thinking to see innovations in the use of the sun, water etc., technological innovations in the sense of creating architecture that is truly "green", renewable, and sustainable, and is arguably the future. In its defence, the book does show some aspects of green architectural concepts, but these are few and far between.

In fact, some concepts shown in the book use such outrageous materials that can be questioned for its green nature, but the author has tried to justify it with hollow descriptions.

In the end, if the book had a different title, then it would receive 5 stars, however, maybe the book is a reflection of the current state of architecture regarding renewable resources - not enough.

For a general overview of the direction architecture should and will be heading, read this book. For others who want a more detailed look into the technology of the future - try something else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not very technical, 31 Oct 2011
This review is from: Green Architecture Now! (Vinyl Bound)
The book is very nice- like all TASCHEN books. It is a bit of a show/album rather than a technical report.
There are no construction details and there is little text. If you want to see Green design in buildings more than you want to learn it, this is a great book. Think of it as a newspaper which will give you basic info about the latest trends in this field and the most interesting buildings and architects in green design in the last 3-4 years (2007-2010)

Good synthesis.
Alas, like quite every Taschen product, the French contents is awful.
It seems that the translation was made by an automate.
Most of the time, the old frenchy is forced to read the English text to understand what is printed.
