A book on De Kooning at this price should be self-recommending, but in case you need extra convincing, here it is. There are illustrations on every page, many full page or 3/4, sometimes two or three placed around the text or in the margins; there are no double-page illustrations which is a plus in any paperbound book - you end up breaking the spine of editions that do this - so top marks for the layout design. All De Kooning`s career phases are represented together with a good smattering of drawings and B/W photos of the artist in his studio etc. The text is clear, unfussy and makes no claims for the artist beyond what most would accept, you get the biographical details and a narrative on things like his technique, etc. you`ll probably read it once unless you`re researching him - the main thing is this is an inexpensive, well produced collection of the artists work; a great addition to your bookshelf or to have in the studio for inspiration or outright theft.
Where would artists be without these Taschen basic editions? Go buy it now.
PS. The colours in the cover illustration are in reverse.
