I recently purchased this guide, along with "Walking in the Valais: 120 Walks and Treks" and also "Lac Leman: Les 50 plus belles randonnees" (the latter of which is in French). Because I'm currently staying in Lausanne, I much preferred The Rother Walking Guide to the Valais (West) to the other two, the main reason being that I can more quickly narrow down my choices due to how the trails are presented in the book. While a compact guide, all the information you need is in there. In addition, the hikes are all ones that you can reasonably do in a single day, including the drive there and back from, say, Lausanne.

What can I say, more than: I love hiking, especially in Valais CH. The Rother Walking guides to Valais, East and West, are the best around. I have hiked a lot of the tours, and will for sure end up doing them all. Very fine descriptions given the two small pages per hike. Also includes usable maps. Go for it!
