I already possess a book entitled `Understanding Illustration' released by Bloomsbury written by these two authors in collaboration, and so I was interested to see how they have approached the writing of this book `Becoming a Successful Illustrator' (a publication which preceded the first book I mentioned above). This book, under review, falls under the Creative Careers group of titles by the same publisher. The writing is educative in style which is hugely useful for newbies to the field, or for those seeking a change of career perhaps and so fits under the Careers Advice umbrella very well. This book is a kind of toolkit, it is all about helping readers to get to grips with their design ideas and explaining how they can identify, further develop and channel their working practices in the right way.The book is all about offering advice on the best practice in running ones own business and working as a freelancer in the industry. It will help weed out the variations in this particular strand of the creative sector and perhaps help establish in the mind eye a way of operating that will work best; whether that is in a commercial sense or for artistic expression alone. And if any degree of success is enjoyed then this book details how marketing and promotional activities can help an illustrator in being able to earn a living. Both authors are professional illustrators. Together they have adopted an approach that lectures on the subject a bit, but at the same time they are generous with their sharing of the type of information that conveys so much about illustration, through expert knowledge and experience of the subject across the world of illustration as a whole.

Excellent book telling you everything you need to know, yes it's pricey but you'll keep referring back to this book over and over again and you'll definitely get your money back in advice. Totally recommend it.
