5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting viewpoint from a Franco-Caribbean writer, 29 Jun 2008
This review is from: Le Coeur a Rire Et a Pleurer (Mass Market Paperback)
This book offers a partially auto-biographical viewpoint (blended in slightly with an element of fiction) on life in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe and France itself, told through a series of stories. It shows us how a young Maryse Condé copes with life as part of a middle-class black family as she grows up and begins to understand more about the past. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in Franco-Caribbean literature or for that matter anybody studying French as it is a very interesting read.
