I bought my first copy of Larousse when I moved from England to a Belgian francophone commune and, as it contains all those handy little colloquialisms, it proved indispensable. Having returned to England, it was still in extensive use by my son as he studied French to A Level and, when he left for uni to read French, it went with him. This new version, bought for my daughter, has had a 'Do Not Remove' sticker put on it so hopefully it'll be around when I'm ready to resume learning. It's such a good dictionary, I'd recommend it for every level, from beginner to degree and beyond.

A classic French English dictionary that is in reasonably big type and is easy to use.

I had a very old dictionary, which did not have 'roundabout', as it was bought in 1966, but originally printed in 1946! This made me realise I had to have an update, so I searched online for a suitable replacement. I am delighted with this and highly recommend it.

Excellent for reference or any study above GCSE. Personally I find it easier to use that the Oxford alternatives since the word use cases seem to be better. If it were available as a eBook or PC application it would be even better.

I would certainly recommend this dictionary. I'm working on a French to English translation of an old book written in rather 'old fashioned' French and it's helped me a few times when i've got stuck. Excellent value for money.

Living in France, although the Collins is very good, the Larousse gives so much more detail and where certain words are used.

I am a retired professor of languages and this is the best Larousse dictionary I have purchased in a very long time.

In this dictionary you can find up-to-date vocabulary, current colloquialisms, and quite a few technical terms. It is a very useful tool for the A-level and degree student and further - professioinal translator, etc. It's not the cheapest, but worth the money...
