5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and great value for money, 8 July 2011
This review is from: Windows PowerShell in Action (Paperback)
Full disclosure; I obviously haven't read the book cover to cover yet (it's ~1000 pages!) but what I have read is very comprehensive, well written and clear.

The main point I wanted to bring some attention to was that there were some additional extras bundled into this book that I was unaware of when I purchased it. Certainly a nice surprise when I received it in the post.

Currently the publisher are running an e-book offer where if you purchase a hard copy of their book you can download e-book version from their website for free. What's particularly interesting about in the case of this book is that Manning give you access to both the first and second editions of this book! So it's definitely worth getting a hard copy of the Second Edition in my opinion. General details on the offer are here [...]

This review is from: Windows PowerShell in Action (Paperback)
Written by one of the creators of the language, this book has the correct pacing, and all the information that you will need. While the book may not seem logically organised, each topic flows into the next one in a sensible fashion, and as well as learning how to do things in Powershell you also learn why you do them this way. The writing style is clear, concise, and informative and the book gives you a sufficient grounding to understand the entirety of the language.

Teamed up with the Windows Powershell Cookbook Windows PowerShell Cookbook: The Complete Guide to Scripting Microsoft's Command Shell from O'Reilly for code examples, these two books will serve you well for almost all your Powershell needs.
