5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading
This small gem of a book is easy to read and extremely relevant to anyone interested in art and pedagogy for today. It is packed with essential background and thought provoking ideas.

3.0 out of 5 stars MISSING RESOURCES
An interesting text that fills the gap for a portable, essential primer for the hoards of art students lured into the contemporary SEA frenzy.
For this reason I have put it in the reading list for my Uni course.
This being said, any self-declared 'education' booklet should present an extended reading list to complement its own content. Which is my complaint:...

An interesting text that fills the gap for a portable, essential primer for the hoards of art students lured into the contemporary SEA frenzy.
For this reason I have put it in the reading list for my Uni course.
This being said, any self-declared 'education' booklet should present an extended reading list to complement its own content. Which is my complaint: there are only footnotes but no bibliography in this text, which leaves its useful primer function running dry for those seeking to expand on its knowledge, an oversight that particularly for the subject of this book is damaging. Maybe something for the second edition.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor formatting, 19 Aug 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book for my PhD studies and rather than buy a hard copy that I might read once and put on my shelf never to be touched again I would buy it for my Kindle. Bad mistake. I am sure the book is a good read and really useful for anyone studying socially engaged art practice but the kindle version is so badly formatted making it very hard to read. Page numbers and footnotes appear halfway up the screen, meaning you are not sure whether you are reading the main body of text or not until its too late. My advice would be, until this has been sorted, to pay that little bit extra for the hard copy.
