The book contains a lot of interesting ideas. The problem comes when you try to implement them. It is difficult to find the various building materials on the net. There is simply too many hits in google. And there are few if any clues to product names which can be used to search for the items you need.

I think he should have been more specific on what materials to use. Many of us will try to order these on the net and can't inspect the materials in a shop.

The author has used some materials which is not mentioned in the book. E.g. on page 50-54 he used Plastazote in real life, not EVA foam. I don't think it is the same, but they may be interchangeable. however it is A LOT easier to find webshops that sell Plastazote than EVA foam on the net.

I find the book vague on thickness for plexiglas.

I have problems finding anything sensible with regards to plexiglas sheets and EVA foam.

A supporting web site would be appreciated for a book like this. Preferably with a forum where readers can exchange ideas, etc. The German language version of the book has a link page at [...] I used Google Translate to translate the text for me. I know some German, so I could guess what google translated wrong.

All in all a good book, but not without flaws. I expect someone to come along and write the book this could have been.

here's a great little book for you !

It isn't a large tome - (60-odd pages) - and it isn't full of spectacular images - but it is a fun book which invites you to 'steal' ideas and make your own interpretation. The money saving ideas for making your own 'low budget' equipment are great - you may not be able to find exactly the connectors and and bits and pieces used by the author - but the general point he is trying to make is "improvise" :-) And if - by having a go cheaply - you discover a passion for photographing ~ well, whatever ~ you can move on to pro equipment in time - IF you feel the need....

The book itself is great 'v.f.m.'
