Have purchased loads of clip on lights in the past, only to consign them to to the bits and bobs draw as they never really delivered.

This product, on the other hand, delivers and delivers well. The option of having one or two lights on is great (with one light providing loads of illumination) and the ability to purchase the optional AC adapter is a nice bonus.

Not only have I used this with my Kindle DX (there's padding on the inside of both parts of the clip to prevent marking and scratching), I've also used it as a standalone "desk" lamp next to my laptop with excellent results.

I don't think I'll ever need to try another booklight again - this one really is fantastic. As another reviewer has suggested, I'd highly recommend buying the optional adapter - it really does extend the functionality of the light.

for use in the car for my daughter, this is a small, lightweight light, that practically folds up on itself. it has a completely moveable head for getting in the exact spot needed. also very powerful light, and great because it has two strengths

I have always read in bed before sleeping. This light enables me not to disturb my wife. Using it with one bulb on is quite sufficient to see print clearly. The light is well made and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a compact and portable reading light.

TOP 500 REVIEWERon 12 April 2010
Didn't think I would film a booklight but the Xtraflex2 surprised me with how small it is. As well as its diminutive size what stuck me is its ease of use. It did clip on my bed headrest (2.5cm thick) and provide a very good reading light from over my shoulder. As bright as it is, however, clipping on to the end of a double bed for central reading might be a bit of a stretch. It is undoubtedly at its best when clipped either to the cover of a hardback book or a chunk of pages on a paperback.

Whilst it looks as though the batteries will last a fair amount of time I do think that I shall be buying 4 rechargable batteries in the future. Does anybody know if you can recharge 3 batteries in one of those silver Energizer rechargers? I know two is okay and four is okay but three?

Very pleased with my purchase thus far, hope my film is of some use.

Mighty faulty

If it works, this is a great reading light. More below - but let's start with those first three words: "if it works".

I'm now on my third one of these in under two months. The first one lasted only 3 weeks before its first LED light conked out, and two weeks later its second LED joined it. (Each one has two LED lights.) Meantime, unaware that this was about to happen, I'd ordered a second light because I liked the light so much. The second one lasted just three days before both LEDs stopped working.

At that stage, I returned both of them as faulty, and asked for one refund and one replacement. No quibbles from the suppliers (all credit to them) ... so now I've got my money back on one of them, and a replacement for the other.

But even the third one is not working properly. Its first LED works OK, but right from day one, its second LED won't come on at first. However, I've found that if I don't switch it off, five or ten minutes later the second LED starts to falter slowly into life (you can watch it gathering strength!). Once both LEDs are working, if I switch it off, then straight back on again, both LEDs work OK; but if I switch it off, then leave it a while before switching it back on again, the saga starts again - every time.

Ordinarily, I would return this one too - it's indisputably faulty. However, even in this state, the light is usable, so I'm persevering, because (as I said up front) if it works, this is a great reading light - and I fear that yet another replacement would not even be as usable as this one. But I've had this one just eight days so far - will it stay like this, or will it die like its two predecessors? Watch this space ....

So much for the downside - now the upside (which is why I'm persevering). I've given this item the lowest rating possible, just to get this review read by potential buyers - but (if it works!!) it has a lot going for it.

1. The lights really are bright - even just one LED is often enough, the second is a bonus. But the lit area is confined to your book - other people are unaffected.

2. The flexible neck is good.

3. It's small and light (ie, not heavy - a light light!).

4. Despite that, it has a sizeable and powerful clamp, which opens to more than an inch wide, and stays firmly clamped. So you can clamp it onto lots of things, not just books (eg, a computer keyboard).

5. This sizeable clamp also houses the batteries, so it is able to use ordinary AAA batteries (3) rather than little non-rechargeable button batteries.

6. The weight of the clamp plus the batteries enables the whole thing simply to stand upright on its own (ie, unclamped) on a desk or whatever.

7. Power consumption is very low, and so battery life is very good - and as noted, you can always use rechargeable batteries anyway.

8. And if even that is a problem, it will also work from a mains adapter (not supplied, sadly, but obtainable).

So now you see why I'm persevering with this semi-faulty third one. Nothing else comes close ... IF IT WORKS!!!! Be warned.

Exactly the solution needed, we (my partner!) has tried many other lights none of which have worked well - this is perfect, bright enough but not too bright (one of the lights is plenty), and easily clips to the headboard or anything else.

Had searched both Amazon US and UK. Found a similar light in US but freight on it was more than the item itself. The one I ordered from the UK arrived well within the promised delivery by ordinary post and was very well packed. Incidentally I live in Queensland, Australia and wanted this light for my Kindle-2.
The light is perfect. Ideal for the job in that it can be clipped or stand on a surface. The simple click options for either one or both bulbs is excellent and find in the majority of cases the one-bulb is plenty. Although for my Kindle, it will have many other uses and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Bought this to use with my Sony Reader and find it to be useful for reading in bed without disturbing the wife. It's also good when standing on it's own for use with my Netbook at night (although it will clip onto the netbook itself quite easily)Bright enough using one LED bulb IMHO which would extend the long battery life even more. Useful addition compared to the 1st edition is the ability to plug in an AC adapter. Rugged, robust with a feel of quality compared to many mass produced items nowadays.

I bought this light for my kindle 3. I chose it because of the reviews as well as the fact that it can be plugged into an ac adaptor - I read a LOT at night and knew I would get frustrated with the batteries life-time. However, the batteries are still going after 26 hours continuous use, (curiosity, I had to check) which means that although at home I will still use the adaptor I am now delighted to find I have a light I can happily take with me when travelling without needing a hundreweight of batteries!
The video review dosen't quite do it justice, the light is very bright, one light is more than enough to light my kindle perfectly, its clips to the back of my cover/stand although is a little clunky and if I was travelling I would probably clip it to the kindle itself - or me - or something around me - the clip is large enough to be able to attach to quite a wide object so I doubt I would have a problem finding something to clip it to. The flex to the head is very flexible yet more than strong enough to keep it in exactly the position needed, its long enough that I can't ever see having a problem positioning it for anything I may need.
This comes in a pouch which can easily be attached to a belt, with plenty of room for those spare batteries, again, perfect for travelling.
All in, I bought this for my kindle, and its perfect for this, yet within a day I can see so many more uses for it - I will probably have to buy another!

Does exactly as I had hoped. The light is a white light, excellent for reading and the clip is strong and holds the arm exactly in place. Nice to have a gadget that does what it says on the box. Recommended.
