4.0 out of 5 stars A Picture Book
I was rather disappointed with this book. There is not a section on colour knitting techniques! The photographed swatches of various designs are lovely and there are several pages at the end of the book on creating other designs so if you are looking for advice and techniques on colour knitting, forget it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very enticing
I understand that this book is a source book - that's why I got it. I don't expect it to be an instructional book on how to do colour knitting - that's available elsewhere. What I did expect was a number of stimulating colour patterns - maybe some traditional patterns, maybe some new ones.

I understand that this book is a source book - that's why I got it. I don't expect it to be an instructional book on how to do colour knitting - that's available elsewhere. What I did expect was a number of stimulating colour patterns - maybe some traditional patterns, maybe some new ones.

What there is an over-abundance of in this book, is two or more coloured patterns that seem to come from the 1970s-1980's. Think of all those cheaply-made machine-knitted acrylic sweaters with the geometric patterns on, and you are getting near to what forms the majority of patterns in this book.

There is a tendency towards overall pattern, rather than motif. Patterns seem to be made up at random - anyone can get hold of a piece of graph paper and draw out a design which they then knit up - I didn't see anything of merit in so many of the patterns, and actually quite frustrated by the content of this book - what were they thinking of? and what a wasted opportunity.

I also expected more than just pictures of lots of patterns with simple K1 P1 instructions - not even a guide on how to hold or use more than one colour and stop your knitting ending up as separate strips! The Vogue Knitting book is far better with great instructions "Vogue Knitting": The Ultimate Knitting Book

There are far cheaper, more comprehensive, and lighter books around for knitting pattern basic stitches dont buy this either individually or as part of the set unless you want it as a coffee table book!
