Though not recently published this book delivers a powerful punch in favour of the local and long nurtured - key tenants of the Slow Movement for example. Beer's cooking is rooted in the land and her family's relationship to it over the years since they moved to the Barossa, from shop to restaurant to farm to shop and most importantly to land.

The auto-biographical writing is direct and honest, the appreciation of ingredients is Austro-centric (as it should be!) and the recipes wonderful. It almost makes me sad to be in England! Once you get your head around the differing seasons and suppliers mentioned - you'll fond you want to cook everything, right now.

The best kind of book - on a par with Judy Rodgers Zuni Café Cookbook

I saw Maggie Beer on the Master Chef Australia Show (Season Two) and she made this pie with this amazing looking pastry - and I had to have the recipe. It is a collector's item with great recipes.

My only advice is to buy this from local shops on the high street - I paid a lot less for this book and bought it brand new. I am not sure why the market place prices are so expensive when the book is readily available from high street retailers.

Please note the price has dropped dramatically since I wrote this review...I wonder why? It's all good though - it is well worth it. My advice would be to shop around to make sure you are not paying over the odds! As good as Amazon is there is no need to get too complacent.

Maggie Beer had a great tv series called The cook and the chef which I watched avidly. Her book is wonderful and so beautiful to look at. You must leave it lying around for people to comment on it.My husband gave it to me for Christmas. It is not only a cookbook but a testimony.

This beautifully produced book provides a wealth of ideas and inspiration for producing really healthy, tasty dishes providing a welcome alternative to the usual Mediterranean flavours. I've tried about 5 recipes so far and all have worked well. Finding the Verjuice which is central to many of the recipes is difficult though its worth hunting it out - Harvey Nicols in London stocks Maggie Bells' own brand!

Fantastic fabric cover...highly recommended to give as a present to those who love to cook - it comes wrapped in plastic so don't have to worry about being stained en route to recipient.
