Perfect for parties or for sharing
on 19 August 2013
Cicchetti are the Venetian equivalent of Italian antipasti, Spanish tapas, or French canapés, and for those who haven't come across them before, Lindy Wildsmith and Valentina Harris have written this lovely book for those looking to explore the tradition. It's written in two halves: the first, by Lindy, concentrates on the Venetian dishes, whilst the second half by Valentina considers similar bites from around the rest of Italy.
The Venetian section of the book is split into chapters on seafood, eggs cheese & cured meat, vegetables, meat, and aperitivi. The second part is split by region, with a few pages per region and a couple of recipes (including drinks) per page. Some of the recipes are more ideas (parmesan with balsamic vinegar for example), but are still perfect for providing inspiration.
To try and list the most tempting recipes is neigh-on impossible - everything looks so good (about half of the recipes are photographed). And with a total of 250 pages, there are more than enough ideas for even the keenest of cooks, or party host.
It is the one downside of this beautiful book: producing delicious little morsels such as these isn't really worth it unless you have enough people to share the results with. Which sounds like a great excuse for at least several parties.
One of the nicest cook books we have seen this year.
