I bought this for my nieces for Christmas and it arrived yesterday, it is beautifully produced and illustrated and very informative for little (and no so little) people. I'm delighted with it and would very much recommend.

Told in a chatty way, as if the Professor is talking directly to you, the book talks through many topics including the universe, birth of a star, galaxies, the sun, solar system and all the different planets, space travel, telescopes, the death of stars and the future. Each page is jam packed with information told in little nuggets with illustrations and also graphics to explain things. There are also funny pictures of Professor Astro Cat along the way to liven things up, but not in too childish a way – more comic like. The colours are muted but the pages feel lush and textured, so that you almost feel as if you’re looking through an art book, but about space. There are nice touches, such as explaining how big the planets would be if Earth was a cherry tomato, and using a balloon to show how a rocket works. There is so much information in this book that it has striking longevity and yet at no time seems overwhelming. The humour jumps out of every page too. A clever book, teaching facts while inspiring children. There isn’t an index, and I couldn’t find information on a solar eclipse, but I was struck by the illustrations and guide to constellations, and spent a great deal of time looking at this. Aged 8 and over. http://www.minervareads.com/?p=774

I found this book quite by accident and so pleased I did.

From the beautiful artwork with lots of recurring themes for children to spot throughout to the well presented and easy to absorb facts, there is nothing to dislike. One of those books that proves to me there is still a place for traditional hard-cover books, especially for sharing with the kids in a way an e-book just can't.

Highly recommended.

Packed full of facts and wonderful illustrations it makes a super gift for 6+ kids. We bought it originally for our daughter and gave it as a gift for a little boy. Its great for finding facts for any science and space school project; a really clever mix of art and facts which make learning so interesting.

This book is beautiful and makes a lovely gift for a child between 8-12. My son if four, so it is a little old for him, which is a shame, but we still look at the wonderful pictures and talk about Mercury and Black Holes.

Very well structured and clearly understandable science ,for the age group targeted. The addition of humour also aids the learning process,I believe.

Bought this for my space-mad four-year-old nephew. I thought it might be a bit old for him, but the next time I saw him he was educating me. He loves to read it on car journeys and at bedtime. It's extremely well put together, with a huge amount of information presented in a digestible way, and the illustrations are excellent. Highly recommended.

Wonderful book, illustrations and details, printed on a very high quality paper. My 5 year old son is fascinated with space just now and this is making a massive difference to his knowledge and understanding, he adores it (I do too :o). A definite for any child's collection.
