TOP 100 REVIEWERon 14 February 2014
I'm not trying to lose weight or a vegetarian but I have a mild intolerance to wheat products and am always looking for easy, healthy recipes so this ticks lots of boxes for me.

Lots of these recipes are easy and fuss-free but work really well: cottage cheese scrambled eggs are a revelation, and there are some lovely things to do with tofu (teriyaki tofu with roasted broccoli, Thai hot and sour salad with crispy tofu). I also really like the warm aubergine salad with Caemembert, and some new soup ideas (cauliflower, coconut and cardamom). The idea of roasting olives was completely new to me but they work very well.

There's a handy menu planner at the end which pulls together ideas from across the book for and suggests things for quick after-work dinners, or lunchboxes, or for having friends round.

An excellent collection of recipes, whether you're vegetarian, low-carb, gluten-free or not.

I really like Celia Brooks's writing. I follow her food and healthy eating advice in various newspaper columns and magazines and it's always refreshing to read. I've been following Celia's 5:2 Vegetarian blog for her new book since last year and so was excited to hear that she was bringing out another book Low-Carb & Gluten-Free in January too. i follow a mainly gluten-free diet and so it was really good to get ideas for vegetarian recipes that are not only exciting and different but healthy as well!! Her dessert section uses recipes with sweetener instead of sugar! I've already bought the ingredients for her Lemon Custard Macaroon Tarts and can't wait to try it out on the family.

Absolutely livid! I have CBB's excellent Low-Carb Vegetarian book from 2004, and several other of her tomes. Her recipes can be inspiring.

But I'm furious about this - I have been drooling in anticipation since the book was announced back in October?/November last year and it turns out to simply be a hardback copy of the earlier book (there are a couple of extra pictures, but nothing more, as far as I can see).

The publishers should be ashamed of themselves (are you listening Anova books).

So, in spite of the wonderful recipes in this book - which kept me on a low-carb veggie diet after the hair-shirted penances in Rose Elliot's offering - I'm giving it a one star instead of the five it deserves UNTIL THE PUBLISHER MAKES IT ABSOLUTELY CLEAR IN THE DESCRIPTION THAT THIS IS THE SAME AS THE 2004 BOOK. And, if you're reading this CBB: sorry - persuade your publishers to change the description and you'll get your well deserved 5 stars.

This is a fab cookbook. So far I have made four recipes up and they have been loved by my family. Recipes are easy to follow and inspiring. I haven't been able to source soy flour yet and would like some suitable alternatives to be listed but I'm sure I will find something. Would strongly recommend this book.

As a newly wheat-free (egg & cheese eating) vegetarian who's fighting the flab, I've been finding it confusing trying to manage a low carb diet, so was thrilled by this book.
A pleasing size (21x21cm) with quality shiny paper & plenty of mouthwatering full colour pictures, although not for EVERY recipe. A good cook book engages ALL the senses, so has to feel nice & have tempting pictures, or they'll just get left on a shelf .... & for me, eyes are the first triggers of appetite!
Full of simple, easy to prepare, delicious recipes that I'm systematically working through. They've been very well received by the family (relieved to see the back of cardboard-y low fat fare), although I have to serve with extra buttery potatoes for my skinny 'not bothered about carbs' husband & son). PS. Weight is just slipping away & since giving up wheat, I feel 10 years younger too.

I was given a copy of this book as I'm keen to turn over a new leaf this year. It's fab. I'm not a strict veggie and do like to supplement some of the recipes with a bit of meat protein from time to time, but have to say that these recipes are all so wonderful I hardly need to. Obviously only tried a few so far (early days!) but am salivating at the prospect of so many of them. Celeriac soup has been especially yummy and the berry gratin was soooo good! Lovely pictures help too.

I bought this cookbook thinking that could offer me something new in low-carb & Gluten-free food. Unfortunately there is nothing in this book that I don't know. The Idea and the approach is good if you are just getting into it. Not every recipe have a picture and the portions are starter size. Some of them are so simple to make you will be telling yourself 'I am doing this already anyway' such as 'baby courgettes with mint and vinegar', 'Mexican Cucumbers' just thinly cut cucumbers and paprika and lime juice on top. If it was my cookbook I wouldn't never put that on.. 'Japanese omelette' Eggs, shiitake mushrooms (any firm mushrooms will do) and soya sauce.. 'Halloumi stuffed red peppers'. Halloumi pieces inside red peppers and roasted. The list goes on and it feels like a joke. Also if, you are expecting a big size chunky book you are very mistaking. There are dimensions given of course but the picture is very misleading so I didn't bother the check the dimensions. Don't do the same mistake. It is a small 20.5 x 20.5 cm (approx) and thin little book. For the size and the content I think it is very over priced.

Going low carb and not eating meat is quite tough, but this book really does make it a lot easier. We do eat fish so we were able to substitute here and there. Book recommended highly.

I found this book very helpful. As a vegetarian I find it can be difficult to follow a low carb diet but this book proved otherwise. I've tried a number of the recipes to date and have enjoyed them all.
