This is a pretty book full of ideas for gardening no matter how small your space. There are 35 step-by-step projects, nicely photographed in colour. The book starts with basic techniques - a how-to guide, which is followed by the projects. Each project has a general introduction, a materials list and instructions. Many of the ideas you will have seen before, but I thought this book had enough interesting projects to go ahead and buy.

I have three reservations with this book - on the very first project, Emma tells us to throw away plants that get too big for eggshells; she often does not stress how important good drainage is and how placing planters on lovely surfaces would ruin them and lastly she puts an Aeonium in a tiny glass she calls a terrarium (a true terrarium has a narrow neck and is enclosed, which I believe is essential for the atmosphere created within the jar) - Aeoniums are big plants. So use your own common sense.

These projects are truly stunning and the illustrations show that it would be easy for anyone to achieve a fantastic result. I wanted to go out to try one of them immediately-sadly it was dark at the time, so I couldn't, but I have started saving eggshells ready for Easter gifts. In fact, the book itself would make a lovely gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am going to order a second one, 23 May 2013

I bought this book for my mother who loves gardening and is unable to get out in the garden following a serious illness. It is an inspirational book full of simple, achievable and beautiful projects. The materials used are available from good garden centres and second hand or charity shops so all the projects can be tried, most of them for little financial outlay on materials or tools. The instructions are clear and the pictures make the book a pleasure to browse through. The little egg shell garden on the cover is so easy and looks fantastic (my local egg supplier gave me lots of blue eggs - really pretty). Mum is now creating beautiful gardens on a smaller scale. I have just ordered a second book to keep for myself! Looking forward to making the kids edible garden with my grandaughter

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like the title says..., 3 Mar 2013
This review is from: Teeny Tiny Gardening (Hardcover)
Fresh new ways to do something extraordinary with what can be a very mundane task. This is accomplished in such a delightful way in Emma Hardy's new book called 'Teeny Tiny Gardening'. As you can see on the cover, she uses eggshells for a small garden of violets and other small plants. I never would've thought of doing that. And inside the book she gives detailed instructions about finding unusual containers for displaying and planting. My favorite by far was the plastic shopping bags she lined with black plastic and filled with potting mixture and seasonal flowers. Set by the front entrance they would make a wonder flash of scent and color, and would be so unexpected. And while it's not a complicated method of planting, again, it's not one that would've come to mind.

I get in a rut of thinking of using only the standard pots and wooden boxes for spring and summer flowers. Hardy, though, uses old trunks, enamel pans, and even a suitcase. She lines up pots on a stepladder and uses a variety of plants in all sorts of unusual ways. Teacups for small flowers and tiny clear glass tumblers for succulents are some of what she grows. Our youngest daughter was struck by the fairy garden, and even made one of her own in a bright green plastic pot. The book is full of ideas that get you excited about looking for your own unusual pots and containers.

'Teeny Tiny Gardening' would be a wonderful addition to any cozy-style gardener.
