Not what I expected
on 25 April 2012
Having recently bought the facsimile of Bradshaw's Railways, I expected this book would be similar. It is very different and at first I wondered if I had made a mistake in buying it. But on delving into it, I found it really interesting and contains a wealth of information on the canals that were still in use (or just about) at the turn of the 20th century. The author was in commercial transport using the canals.
I have found that finding a particular canal is not always easy, as in many cases the names have changed or they are grouped under the then ownership i.e. The GWR. So a little perseverance/browsing is required.
As a reference book for anyone interested in canals or their history it should be a must.
