I am terrible for buying crochet books because I'm inspired by their cover or a review and then passing them on because really there was nothing that grabbed me. This book is different. I find the photographs inspirational and the patterns easy to follow. The book is divided into 3 sections. Starting Out, which has all the usual diagrams for complete newbies, and then simple projects all of which I'd happily make. I've already done bunting, a round stripy cushion, a bag using small granny squares and wash cloths. The section section 'Practice makes perfect' has 11 projects, again almost all usable. I've done a scarf, baby slippers & plan on at least 4 more. The final section of 9 projects includes bears, a pretty tea cosy, russian dolls & a gorgeous scarf - my next project.
All the recommended yarns are available in the UK. I think all in all Nicki's book does what it says on the cover - 35 adorable, cute & easy projects.

I am telling you it is GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS - the patterns are lovely, the wool they use is lovely and there seems to be something for everyone - little practice crochets like Jam Jar Covers, to chair mats (which will make a FABULOUS 1st project for when my kids are older), to gorgeous throws and bags. It is fabulously structured - patterns are clearly marked as "beginner", "improver" and "enthusiast". I like these labellings, as "improver" to me sounds like I can have a go and I may even manage enthusiast one day!!! The beginning of the book as a guide to all the stitched you will need - so "their double crochet" or "their treble". This is great for making sure you are not getting the American and British stitches confused, as well as serving as a reminder as to "what these actually are again"... I last crocheted about 2 months ago, so as a beginner I did need to revisit all the stitches again to remind me what I need to do.. and then I had a go: at their "Baby Bouncing Balls". I decided to make these, as they are small, quick, help me practice following a pattern (which is the skill in need to improve) and allowed me to use up some odds and ends of wool I had lying around. The beginning was a little fiddly (isn't all crochet beginning a little fiddly?) and then I quickly got the hang of the pattern. I didn't make just one, but 5!! Well we have some babies just born amongst my friends, so these make perfect little additions to their gifts. I love them. I am hooked.

I highly recommend this to any beginner. My only "but" would - with the less complicated patterns - use what would wool you have that roughly corresponds to the pattern - don't worry about buying a whole ball of wool, just to make a little bouncy ball or Jam Jar cover... However, take care to get the right wool for bigger or more complicated patterns - I know this from "bitter knitting experience"! Ask advice in a store or buy the wool stated for the pattern (which is often Debbie Bliss, which I LOVE!).

This delightful book is full of gorgeously simple and not quite so simple patterns for producing crochet projects to beautify your home, yourself and any children not yet old enough to run screaming from anything handmade.
The illustrative photographs are shot in a home of such delicious faded splendour that you may well find yourself being able to justify any battered furniture you may own by simply adding a throw or cushion worked from this book.
Highly recommended by Mrs Danvers (who owns much battered furniture).

This was the first Crochet book I bought. As a knitter, I finally decided to branch out into crochet. This book was recommended. I love the patterns. It's very up to date and not at all old fashioned. I love the choice of colours used in the projects as well as the projects themselves. I also found the lay out very easy to read. I did at times have to try a couple of different ways of doing something to work out what it meant (as I am a complete beginner) but after I understood how to read the pattern, it was easy and very enjoyable. One word of warning, I have made a couple of projects and most of them have been fine, however, I found the pattern for the scarf did not work at all. I pulled it apart 3 times then finally asked a lady who is in her 70's and has been crocheting for longer than I've been alive, to find out what I was doing wrong. She couldn't work out where I had gone wrong in the pattern. Finally I decided to follow the picture (and make up my own pattern) rather than the pattern in the book and it turned out really well. That is the only pattern I have had a problem with so far.

Saying that I do love the book and am buying it for my Mum for Christmas (but I will write my pattern into the book for her! lol).

This is a great book for the likes of me, who have only been crocheting a short time. It has a good selection of quick and easy projects and is beautifully photographed (which always works for me!)

I'm new to crocheting but after buying a basic DVD and time spent practicing the basic stitches I was pleased when I managed to finish the Floral Purse, Egg Cosies and Roses and Posies Tea Cosy. The Cute and Easy Crochet book is a fabulous, straightforward and generally easy to understand book. I love the up to the minute projects and the glorious colours used which really show off these designs. I have given this book 4 stars because after having spent many evenings trying to make the flowers for the Rose Shopper on page 43 I am left feeling more confused than when I first attempted them. Please can anyone tell me what (pick up 2 loops) means and (4 loops) on round 2. There doesn't seem to be any explanation regarding this new stitch. It would not look the same if I had to use a simpler flower for my bag. Please help! I really like Nicki Trench but I do feel frustrated at this lack of detail.

I bought this book because I want to make and sell small hand made gifts at local bazzars and craft fairs. It does not disappoint and is full of small and larger projects suitable for beginners and those who have crochet experiance. The instructions are easy to follow and the pictures are well photographed. A must for all those crafters out there.

Got this book for some more ideas. I have been crotcheting for a few years now and enjoy new things to do. This book has good ideas in it, some easier than others but everyone will find something in there that they will like to try and do. I would say 'try this book', you'll enjoy it, regardless how good you already are.
