This is a very inspiring read, very clearly expounding the dharma and the methods and practices of meditation. I actually owned the first edition, which I also love, but this carries with it the weight of a further twenty years of experience of meditation and teaching meditation. A great teacher, this book has ignited and inspired this already quite inspired and experienced meditator - so it is certainly not limited to beginners, although I am certain this would serve as a wonderful introduction to meditation.
There is much of benefit to the experienced. It explores practices of all yanas, and especially interesting is the section on insight meditation and tantric meditation. I am benefitting greatly from the sections about the six element practice, the meditations on the Buddha and on conditionality, and on the visualisation of the bodhisattvas. I also gained a lot from the teachings on the basic practices, on breath meditation and metta bhavana.
Very highly recommended, very clear, and free from excess gobbledegook! It is so refreshing not to learn that actually to do certain meditations that you should have met this or that teacher and had this or that initiation, but just solid and inspired instruction and direct and helpful guidance.
