4.0 out of 5 stars Honest and enjoyable, 25 April 2014

Matlock is straight forward and honest, no self aggrandisement, no look at me politics. Sure, it's no great work of literature but it tells the story from the actual perspective of not only someone who was there but, given they wrote nothing much after he left, someone who was always far more important than he is given credit for. Say what you like, without the first songs nothing would have happened. I was 16 in '76 and while it might be easy to take for granted now...Anarchy/GSTQ/Pretty Vacant...plus others...were a life line to those of us who looked around and could only see dumb, hippy pub rock or sub-glam goons on crap tv. After he left the Pistols meandered into farce, bickering, bitterness and eventually implosion. A threat neutering itself. Yet the music still stands today, what there is of it. No one can debate Matlock's involvement in that.

5.0 out of 5 stars OVERLOOKED CLASSIC, 18 Aug 2014
This review is from: I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol (Paperback)
Glen writes well and this is a funny, trustworthy, intelligent, fascinating account of being a Pistol. There's an extra foreword written after the 1996 'Filthy Lucre' tour where he admits to being less bitter about things now that he's finally received acknowledgement, financially and otherwise, for his role. (Actually, he's not particularly bitter anyway - if you fancy hearing from an embittered bass player/songwriter with delusions of grandeur, try Noel Redding's book.) A shame this isn't more widely read really. Saw Glen play solo stuff in the early 90s and - though there was no material to match his 70s output - what a musician. Pretty essential reading if you're at all interested in Punk.

Comes across as an honest and unpretentious account of Glen Matlock's experience Interesting to read about some one elses point of view other than the usual Johnny/Sid/Malcolm side of events.
