This review is from: No-Nonsense Guide to Global Finance, The (No-Nonsense Guides) (Paperback)
This book is brilliant for getting a snapshot of the Global Finance world. It starts with the origins of currency and goes on to explain the use of Fixed Income/Money Market/Derivative instruments and how they fit in to the overall GF picture. It also focuses a lot on the World Bank and IMF. The book also dedicates a section to the Financial Crisis of 2007, which is good, as many of the books pre-dating the recent crisis are misleading in their assumptions of the robustness of the (pre-crisis) banking system. I have one gripe and that is the bias the author shows toward the mentality of the World Bank/IMF/Traders. In some cases, the arguments made stem more from passion than a logical, impartial assessment of the facts. The last chapter, in particular, becomes almost like a rant (maybe justified!). Still, though, a very good short book for those wanting to acquaint themselves with the basic workings of GF.
