This long-awaited and beautifully-produced 360pp book from Tom Rosenthal who has been studying Lowry's paintings for over fifty years, is a must for everyone enthusiastic about Lowry's work who wants to see his full range, understand about his technique and his influences and read more about his extraordinary life. The author knew Lowry well, interviewed him for the BBC and discussed his work with key critics such as Sir Herbert Read, E.H. Gombrich and Sir John Rothenstein.

There are over 200 wonderful colour illustrations which I've been feasting on. Some of them have never been reproduced before. There are also many drawings and archive photographs and a useful guide to the public collections where you can see Lowry's paintings 'in the paint'.

Altogether a wonderful present to give to a friend - or to onself!

This is exactly the book I was looking for - great text and a lot of the Lowrys work printed in colour. I highly recommend this book if you want to know more about L S Lowry and see his work.

What a good job the author has done with this book. With a London exhibition of Lowry's work there are signs that, at last, he is being recognised as the excellent artist he was. A treasured purchase

A comprehensive account of a misunderstood artist (at least by the powers that be) by someone who knew him both socially and as an artist. This book pulls together all the facts and some of Lowry's work and delivers a powerful story about a lonely and sometimes isolated artist who succinctly captured the sorrow, humour and hardships of the people of the industrialised north like no one else has done either before or since. An outstanding book.

fantastic pictures- as I do not live near a Lowry gallery- I thought this book might be the next best thing for seeing his works without having to travel far.

Comprehensive and informed but lacks objectivity. Quality of the images is good but not great.
