5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for ornithologists., 13 Nov. 2011
This review is from: A Field Guide to Monitoring Nests (Paperback)
This handy-sized book is a superb aid for anyone wanting to survey bird nests.
Each species covered in the book has its own section with sub-sections on where the species breeds, where the nest is sited, which sex builds the nest, incubates the eggs, feeds the young, with information on identifying nests and young and, most importantly, which methods to use to find the nest, either while it is being built, during incubation or while young are in the nest.
The book is also sized to fit into most pockets, and could, therefore, be used in the field with no problem.
Any ornithologist studying breeding birds is likely to find helpful information here.
As I appear in a photograph in this book, I may be a little biased, but it is is simply brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Field Guide to Monitoring Nests, 6 Mar. 2012

This review is from: A Field Guide to Monitoring Nests (Paperback)
This is the best pocket field guide on nests ever, some very good pictures. if you havent got this you really should have.
Well done the BTO for bringing this out, it is a must for any serious nest recorder both new and experienced.
The only thing I would liked to have seen covered was "schedual one" nests, and I can see no reason for leaving these out other than someone thinking it may hinder illegal nesting which dont really make sense these days with so much info on the internet.
I can see this book up there with "[ASIN:9163011182 Identification Guide to European Passerines]" by Lars Svensson for many years to come.

Everything that you need to know from a field guide on the subject. A very handy size. The only minus is that the introduction cites references but there is no bibliography giving details of these. Otherwise a 5 star book.
