5.0 out of 5 stars EYE-OPENER
This is a critical book that everyone interested in the fate of the world we live in must read. In this pivotal work Melanie Phillips explains how largely due to the appeasement policies of the liberal and left elites, Britain is becoming in international hub of Islamic terrorism, and how Islamic culture is destroying and pushing out the Judeo-Christian and British...

3.0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed to Polarise Opinion
This was always a book that was guaranteed to generate controversy and polarise opinion. I'm sure Melanie Phillips didn't mind in the slightest as it probably did a stellar job in increasing sales. I have to admit it internally polarised me throughout. At times I thought it was completely over the top and nothing short of scare mongering in regard to the threat that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Londonistan: How Britain Created a Terror State Within.,
This review is from: Londonistan: How Britain Created a Terror State within (Paperback)The UK's 'Liberal/Socialist' elite will hate/fear this book, because it tells the bald truth about the modern-day Britain they've created. For some fifty years this left-leaning clique have regarded Islam rather like a prize poodle, to be trotted out and complimented at party rallies/TV programmes etc... but have completely failed to understand the inherent strength of the Islamic faith/lifestyle; or to realise that once Europe's traditional Christian beliefs had been undermined/destroyed, Islam not their atheistic Socialist 'paradise' would replace it. Unlike most Western politicians I've spent the latter half of my working life in the Islamic World and clearly understand Ms Phillips's message; she is writing for everyone/anyone who still cares about the future of freedom, liberty, justice and peace for their children/grandchildren. For the sake of not just the UK but the entire Western World, please buy/read this book.
Some thirty years ago now, on one of my first trips to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia; I saw a massive billboard advert which influenced how I have viewed life ever since. People who have never visited Saudi might find this strange, but written in English words six foot high was the slogan "Pierce The Great Satan In The Eye. Have A Child For Allah." accompanied by a cartoon picture of a very Jewish looking Uncle Sam, being hit in the eye with an arrow, just like King Harold at Hastings. As a young man raised to believe that getting girls pregnant was ultimate sin I didn't know what to make of this, but later raised the matter with our Palestinian interpreter Omar. He was a cheerful, easy going type; but what he told me shocked me to my core, and I've never looked at world events in the same way since.
In a conversation lasting some twenty minutes, Omar explained to me that when a society becomes gripped by the Devil/Satan, the effects are always the same; virtue and honour are abandoned, the people become selfish and lazy, blind to the wickedness around them; while the leaders become arrogant, greedy and corrupt, prepared to do any evil to gain the vices/luxuries they crave. The result of this demonic control is degeneracy, the men become weak, the women whores, while all bonds of decency are broken. The inevitable reward of this demonic/hedonistic lifestye is social, moral and individual decay; greed leads to crime, moral failure shatters the family and the birthrate plummets. When God/Allah sees the suffering of the people he sends them a prophet/messiah, to lead them back to the ways of truth and decency; but if this prophet is rejected, and the evil do'ers curse his name; their curses will rebound upon them and they will be swept from the face of the Earth; for the wages of sin are death!
I came home with a very different point of view, found and married a decent girl, and eventually had eleven children; whether for God or Europe I still don't know. But what Omar explained to me then has become ever clearer as the years have passed. I've seen Britain's best and brightest refuse to have children because of cost, responsibility, career etc.... while the meanest specimens breed simply to claim more welfare. I've seen crime rocket to levels unimaginable in my youth; 'gay marriage' legalized, abortion become a 'lifestyle choice'. I've seen British justice become a travesty; only recently literally hundreds of corrupt MP's have been publicly exposed, but only a token few were even prosecuted, let alone properly punished. It's this demonic lifestyle into which our people are now sunk which is destroying us, not the Muslims in our midst. Blessed by God/Allah for their piety and the decency which a pious lifestyle brings, they will merely replace us; when our system's wickedness has consumed both us and the Devil's brew we now regard as culture.
The most amazing thing Omar also told me that day was the name of the prophet, rejected by the West he came to save; and I can assure you his name is still cursed to this day. But despite the words of the wicked; the wages of sin are still death, and the Western World is being swept away, just as he predicted. I'm almost sixty now and my children mostly have children of their own. I should dearly love to think that they, and the ever increasing numbers of my grandchildren, will see the 'Christian' West grown strong, virile and decent once again, but as I watch the TV News I I know it won't happen; and I think you do to.....
"Londonistan is a last-minute warning for Britain and for much of the free world...the book is powerful and frightening, but also courageous." Nathan Sharansky.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hmm - important but peddling bigotry of its own!,
"The author wishes to see a return to Christian values, though how this is imposed upon those of us who don't share her faith is left worryingly vague. Frankly, I don't want men in dog collars policing my life any more than I want sharia law imposed upon me. Step back a little, and much of what Phillips says is a spooky echo of the poisonous rhetoric emanating from the Islamists."
Exactly! As a practitioner of one of Britain's revived and updated indiginous pre-Christian faiths I was appalled to see Phillips describe Christianity as the "cradle" of our civilisation. The author apparently believes that these lands were previously simply a moral and cultural wasteland, populated by crude, savage "Barbarians" running around in their blue paint or boar-crested helmets, utterly incapable of producing any kind of worthy spiritual, political or socio-economic system of their own. Even just a cursory delve into the actual history of Britain both before and after the Christian conversion reveals such a sentiment to be rather naive and romantic at best, and at worst the same sort of dangerously revisionist, self-deluding tosh that the Islamists are undoubtedly guilty of as well. The truth is that both our love of freedom and tendency to be tolerant of religious diversity can be found in the pre-Christian cultures of both the Celtic and Germanic peoples who inhabited these islands. Such as women's rights and freedom of philosophical speculation actually suffered post-conversion and it took many years to gain these back once the Church got it's feet under the table. Undoubtedly Christianity will have brought some good ideas and improvements to our shores, but like Islamism again, it fell down in its insistance that it is the "one true way" to the Divine before which all other ways must crumble. I'd have much preferred it if Phillips had been closer to the mark and said that Christianity had been a CONSTITUENT part of the formation of our civilisation, which is a much more honest appraisal.
Despite the above criticisms, I actually feel this book to be quite an important one, for the sparking of much-needed debate on the subject and challenging of some modern "sacred cows" if nothing else. I agree wholeheartedly with Phillips that we have for too long taken the path of appeasement and shown ourselves to be rather weak and ineffectual in tackling the real issues which lie at the heart of this very real and potentially catastrophic problem we now face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wake up!,
This review is from: Londonistan: How Britain Has Created a Terror State Within (Paperback)The whole story is mindboggling, though true and not only in England but all over Europe. This book should be a must read to all politicians. It calls a spade a spade, which is a rarity today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Include or exclude?,
However the idea of universal inclusiveness and moral relativism seems to be completely helpless when it comes to draw the line.
If Melanie Phillips is simply an alarmist and is wrong in her conclusions, so what? This is still a brilliantly written political essay, which made English political thought so widely-known.
However if she is right, then her book might be a droplet of water in the tide that comes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unconvincing,
In Londonistan, the world is divided sharply into black and white. Good things include Tony Blair, the war in Iraq, Israel, the Church of England under Archbishop Carey, pre-1940s British culture, and the bulldog spirit. Bad things include Islamists, Islam itself (for its alleged anti-semitism and subjection to Islamism), multiculturalism, secular humanism, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Palestinians, liberals, human rights, the BBC, the British intelligensia, the present Church of England, and indeed Britain itself.
Phillips bases her argument on the convergence of two factors: the rise of Islamist organisations in London and (as she sees it) the despicable moral and cultural deterioration of Britain. The second is the prime cause of the first. Hence the mocking title: London has been taken over, it is the terrorist factory of the world, the place where al Qaeda was conceived. (Actually, it isn't, but there's no time for such quibbles as the arguments fly past.)
The book deals with some of the most profound and complex challenges of our time, especially the problem of integrating sensitive minorities into mainstream culture (people must adapt, says Phillips: no messing about with this cultural pluralism nonsense). Phillips's answer? Special courts, tough immigration restrictions, repeal of current human rights legislation, a clampdown on manifestations of support for Islamism, more covert surveillance, close monitoring of mosques and Muslim schools, the "remoralisation" of Britain, abolition of multiculturalism, insistence on the primacy of British culture, and education for Muslims on how to be a minority and how to think positively about Israel.
Phillips would make a great ayatollah. But I found her moralistic crusade, only lightly spiced with bits of practical common sense, deeply depressing.

1.0 out of 5 stars An extended "Daily Mail" rant,
This review is from: Londonistan: How Britain Has Created a Terror State Within (Paperback)Melanie Philips does in this book what she does in her regular columns for the "Daily Mail". She selects her usual suspects (the BBC,left-wing politicians, teachers, the Human Rights Act,lawyers)and makes them responsible for everything bad in the world. The fact that there are few or no connection between them is no problem at all for Ms.Philips, she just invents such connections.
Ms.Philips is prone to believing nonsense-just remember her views on MMR vaccine. She also has mindlessly anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab prejudices. In "Londonistan", she extends anti-Arabism into anti-Islamism and combines it with her prpensity for believing nonsense.
Is there a debate to be had over immigration laws, national security policy and anti-terror legislation in Britain.Yes,but this ain't no debate,it is a borderline racist harangue.Avoid
