5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide, 16 Jan 2013

These 2 guides are possibly the best climbing guide books I've used. They note only give some of the best maps/graphics to help find the cliffs and areas, but also give a nice amount of background information.
The also have very clear descriptions of the routes, at times with comments from the first ascent party.

The only criticism is that they are not that waterproof, but it really is a minor problem.

I no longer live in the UK and haven't climbed in Scotland since the mid-90s, but browsing this book in a local shop inspired me to get back to the North West asap. Superb guidebook, covering way more than the previous Howett edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars good guide, 27 Jun 2013

I use the southern book normally as I live between Glencoe and The Ben. Yet to try routes in north book but I like for clear photos with pretty coloured lines ;-) . You can easily flick through these books and see how many lines are on a crag in your grades, then go into more detailed route description. Only knocked one star off as it doesn't cover every climb in existence, but as it would take a lifetime to do half of them (if like me you've got kids to look after) , the "complete" guide would weigh more than your rack, and you can always "find climb" on ukclimbing. then that doesn't really matter :-)
