I bought the second edition direct off Chris at a bike show in the dim past and that copy is almost fallen apart so I was overjoyed to see a new edition in preparation.

The extra work in this is easily worth the purchase of a new book, the changing world will always outstrip the speed that guidebooks can be written but this is as close to having a mate on the phone where you want to go giving you the latest info.

The bike prep and gear sections are also superb.

If you want to head off over the horizon on a motorbike you need this book.

This book should be made compulsory reading for anyone leaving the UK on a motorbike.
Very well written, full of vital tips for crossing continents. But also useful for shorter European trips, as it makes you think about the preparation thats needed for any trip.
Its full of information that would take you a life time to aquire.
Buy it, because a thousand miles from home, you will have wish you had.

I have a previous version of this book from 2005.
This new edition has an extra 100 pages over my older version.
The man writes well, with great knowledge and experience.
Even if you aren't going on a big trip it's still worth buying for all the hints and tips, and just general ideas.
Mine cost £15, about the price of 3 or 4 bike magazines, and it will outlast those by many years.
It's a bargain, buy it.

I just received Chris Scott's AMH6. Haven't read it yet, but having recently read the previous edition, I know one can trust the author and content! Previous edition is 288 pages - current edition is 384. If previous edition took 3 days to read, this one should take about a week! Sure, if you 're planning to set off for a motorcycling adventure, there's no need to purchase this book as you can find almost all of the information around the world wide web. But purchasing AMH 6 (or earlier) admittedly saves you time and frustration. Highly advisable! Thanks Chris! :D

Great update of the original book.
That's even more useful for planning that big trip of a life time or long weekend away.

This book captures in one place all of the things you need to consider when planning an adventure ride. It is well written and, refreshingly, includes experienced opinion and not just vague description, so really gives you something to work with.
Its a great place to start investigating and planning your own overland adventure.

Informative and clearly-written by someone who knows what he's talking about. I've no intention of embarking on a RTW trip at age 60 but it's an interesting read if you like motororcycles.

This book is so full of information that would take ages to collate from the net and magazines. Furthermore, with Scott, you know that he knows what he is talking about. A must read
